Many of your neighbors here in Prairie Village have been busy this month. With the formation of a city-recognized neighborhood association, residents are becoming more and more organized as a community and are getting to know one another a little better. Longmont’s Neighborhood Group programs provide neighborhoods across Longmont with a variety of services, from funding for block parties to improving our relationship with the city. To get a better idea of what the Neighborhood Group program provides, visit the following site:

Neighborhood Programs

The Prairie Village Neighborhood group is getting started. We’ve already had one meeting to form the group, and are following it up with a newsletter and a survey. You can find the newsletter here on the PrairieVillageUnited.org website:

Newsletter Vol 1 Issue 1 October 2009

As the group gets more organized, we can expect to see improved communications within the neighborhood over pertinent issues. As the owner of the PrairieVillageUnited.org website, I intend to allow the neighborhood group improved access to the site so that they may handle their own email, articles, etc., although we haven’t determined exactly how the site and the neighborhood group will be related.

Stay tuned as we get the neighborhood group rolling, and be sure to check in on the Forums from time to time!

Sarah Levinson – Longmont City Council Member and Planning and Zoning Commission Board member – wanted me to tell everyone involved in the presentation concerning the Apartments being built at the Prairie Village entrance, that was given to the Planning and Zoning Commission on September 17th, they did a great job. She said it was one of the best presentations that she has ever seen. She was also impressed that we were organized so well before the application has come before the board. So a big congratulations out to everyone who helped and/or attended the meeting. We are having an impact on this issue!

Here is an update regarding the proposed development on the alpha field. We have been digging through planning and zoning files in order to become more familiar with the history of Prairie Village and the process of city approvals for construction.  What we have found is that the approved plans dating back to 1997 consistently refer to the parcel of land in question as business park/light industrial. This is consistent with what many, if not most of us, have been told (or already knew) regarding that piece of land.

The developer has not yet submitted an application for construction but we continue to press forward.  Ruth Lorenzetti, Donna Hertfelder, and Mike Primeau are working on a presentation to bring to the Planning and Zoning Commission which will point out the consistency of the “plans” for that piece of land from the concept plans to the approved preliminary plat.

If you are concerned about the construction of apartments at the entrance of our neighborhood, please plan on attending this meeting. There are a lot of people in this neighborhood that are opposed to the plans for apartments, and we need to make sure the city knows it. The best way to do so is to show up at their meetings in large numbers. The meeting information is as follows:

Wednesday, September  16th, 7:00pm

350 Kimbark Street

City Council Chambers in the Civic Center Complex

Be sure to say hi to any neighbors you recognize, and please be ready to make some visible sign that you’re with Prairie Village, such as standing when one of the presenters asks for a show of  support.

See you soon!

A lot of people have been pretty surprised about the paving of our roads and the lack of details on a schedule, road accessibility, etc. While we’ve known for a while that the roadwork was coming, no one seems to have any of the details we as homeowners need. So far, we’re unaware of any attempts on the part of the HOA to communicate these details, and hope to hear more information from them soon. If you have any information, please comment on this post, or talk about it on our forums at http://forums.prairievillageunited.org.

Hi, Prairie Village! You may be visiting after hearing about the website at today’s party. We’d like to invite you to join the discussions about the neighborhood. On the website forums, you’ll find discussions already happening about a babysitting co-op, a neighborhood soccer match, the party you were hopefully just attending, the proposed apartments, and the HOA. Bring your own interests into the forums! We welcome all Prairie Village residents to take part in the forums.

Only community residents are allowed to sign up. You can do so by clicking the “Forums” link at the top of the page, and then find and click the “Register” link. If you’ve already put your contact information into the Prairie Village United neighborhood directory, we can approve your account quickly.

If you haven’t got onto the neighborhood directory yet, we encourage you to do so. It will allow us to contact you quickly with neighborhood news, as well as authorize you to access the Prairie Village forums and chat with your neighbors there. To get on the neighborhood directory, send an email to info@prairievillageunited.org containing the following information:

  • Your address
  • Any email addresses, and the names of their owners, that you wish to associate with your household

We take your privacy very seriously. Unless we get a court order to do so, will we never make your information publicly available or give it to anyone who doesn’t live here. If you opt in to have your information shared with others in the directory, we will make it available only to them.

We want this site to represent this community, and are happy to try and make it into what you want it to be.

Someone suggested that it would be useful to have a backup of the original neighborhood layout many of us were shown when we decided if we wanted to live here. Click the link below to view the neighborhood map.

We’ve made backups of our freely available HOA covenants and architectural review guidelines.  At the time of this writing, these are all the documents that have been formally provided to all Prairie Village residents by the HOA, and are each visible on the HOA’s website (www.prairieowners.com).

Every Prairie Village resident should have received these documents in print either before moving in, or (in the case of resolutions or ammendments) as those documents were incorporated into the whole.

All documents will open in a new window.

Hi folks! This site will provide a means of communication among residents of Praire Village in Longmont, CO. We’ve been going for a long time without any sort of community representation among our Home Owners Association. This is not surprising, as our “HOA” is really a “Developers Association,” controlled entirely by people who do not live in our community. Many Prairie Village residents are becoming frustrated over the lack of cooperation between the HOA and the community. Prairie Village United seeks to change this present situation.

This site is young, and will be growing rapidly in the coming days. We will be creating a forum in the near future where any resident of Prairie Village may voice their concerns, talk about what’s happening in the community, or just chat. The page you’re looking at now will serve to voice community concerns in the form of articles written by Prairie Village residents.

Prairie Village United is maintaining a Residents’ Directory. This gives us an easy means of spreading news concerning community events via email, and will later provide you with the means of posting on our forums. If you are a resident of Prairie Village, please contact Bob Anderson at ripanderson@iname.com. Provide him with your name and street address. Someone will follow up with you personally to ensure that only residents of Prairie Village are given a voice here. Your information will not be shared with anyone else for any reason; this is just to keep our discussions among Prairie Village residents.

Get in touch! Prairie Village United wants to hear from you.
